Khruangbin & Leon Bridges Texas Moon EP

12" Black Vinyl EP.

»It's not Khruangbin, it's not Leon, it's this world we created together«, Khruangbin & Leon Bridges announce their new »Texas Moon EP«. The artists, who could hardly be more different, proved that this sentence is true two years ago on their first joint EP »Texas Sun«.

Khruangbin is Laura Lee, Mark Speer and Donald "DJ", a psychedelic funk combo from Houston, Texas. Leon Bridges is a soul singer with a penchant for a retro sound from Fort Worth in, yes, also Texas. And here lies their connection. After the musicians got to know each other on tour, the plan came about to record music together. It is now known that this plan worked.

After the four songs of the predecessor, »Texas Moon« now has five tracks that, to come back to the announcement, combine the best of both worlds: exotic funk and the uniquely soulful voice of Leon Bridges. The first single »B-Side« shows that the songs are clearly a continuation of the first EP, but still have their own identity. Bridges called the "Texas Moon EP" "more introspective," while Khruangbin bassist Laura Lee says it "feels more nocturnal."

Since their debut EP of the same name in 2010, Khruangbin have emerged as one of the most interesting bands on the scene. Influenced by 1960s Thai funk - their name literally means »Engine Fly« in Thai - and steeped in the bass-heavy, psychedelic sound of their Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock idols, they have released four albums to date, most recently »Mordechai « (2020), on which the predominantly instrumental band put the vocals in the foreground for the first time. A change that they readily admit was a direct result of working with Bridges. Leon Bridges originally wanted to be a dancer. He discovered his love of playing the guitar and singing only late when he was already in college. He finally found his personal style in a mixture of retro soul and R'n'B. He has released three albums since 2015, most recently »Gold Diggers Sound« in 2021.
