Artist: Pierre Bonnard

This original French poster was created for a 1957 exhibition featuring works by French artists, including Pierre Bonnard, at the Musée d'art Moderne in Paris.

About the Artist: Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) was a French Post-Impressionist painter, illustrator and printmaker, known for the decorative qualities of his paintings and his juxtaposition of dazzling light and vibrant colours. Inspired by the work of Paul Gauguin, Hokusai and other Japanese print artists, he was considered one of the leading figures of the Post-Impressionist movement and a major contributor to the transition from Impressionism to Modernism. Although he depicted many scenes from everyday French life, ranging from landscapes to intimate portraits, his focus usually remained on the use of colour, light and perspective.

He once said of his work, "What I am after is the first impression—I want to show all one sees on first entering the room—what my eye takes in at first glance.”

Poster is in very good condition with minor edge wear (please see photos).
