This is such a great item: an antique tray set by Sternauware with an Art Deco or Secessionist design!  The tray and coasters are made of shiny white porcelain and are rimmed with shiny metal rims with a raised, reticulated design.  The backs of the porcelain is stamped 'Germany' and #3838, and the metal rims 'made in N.Y.'  The tray measures 9.5" in diameter; the porcelain is shiny white with a circle of red and white checkerboard squares, connected with green ovals - the effect is early Art Deco, Secessionist, or Jugenstihl.  Each coaster has the same design in the same colors but in miniature scale, as shown.  Even the pierced metal patterns match.

These are preowned and have been cherished: they are in excellent condition, with minimal wear or faults.  There are one or two small worn areas at the rim of the tray and one coaster rim is slightly out of round, all shown in the last several photos.  This has a great look for Christmas holidays - or all year round. Wonderful gift!
