Pseira is a small island at the eastern end of the Gulf of Mirabello in eastern Crete. In Minoan times, it was the site of a prosperous town with about 60 buildings. The site was first excavated in 1906 and 1907; the new project began in 1985, initiated with the purpose of gathering information rather than art objects or new finds for display. Much of the project's resources were devoted to the assemblage of data from masses of household pottery, the recording of state plans from the architecture previously exposed, and the acquisition of information from the humbler aspects of Minoan culture. With this volume, the presentation of data begins. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
