The Liberandos: A WWII History of the 376th Heavy Bombardment Group and its Founding Units - James W. Walker - 376th Heavy Bombardment Group Veterans Association

RARE!

Absolutely huge, superbly produced book on the 376th BG, which operated Liberators in the Middle East.  Contains hundreds of images, and many stories of crews and machines, including the full story of the famous B-24 ‘Lady Be Good’, which disappeared in 1943 after a bombing raid on Naples, and was re-discovered in 1959.  An exceptionally good book, long out of print and hard to find, commanding premium prices!

Here’s an Amazon customer review (2008) which gives the book 5/5: The words are NOT my own and are for descriptive purposes only.

The 376th Bombardment Group - 'The Liberandos' - can claim many WWII honours including Oldest U.S.A.A.F. Bomb Group Operating Overseas, Only BG to be Formed Overseas, First BG to Operate in the MTO, First BG to Bomb Targets on the European Continent, Lead Formation on the Low-Level August 1943 Ploiesti Mission, First BG to be Based on the European Continent, etc. The life and times of this outstanding unit are winningly told in this book by author James Walker and the 376th H.B.G. Veterans Association.

The 376th BG, created out of the Halpro Project/1st BG (Prov.) in October 1942, was assigned successively to the 9th, 12th and 15th Air Forces. It flew 451 missions, lost 169 aircraft and was awarded three Distinguished Unit Citations.

The 376th is most identified with the ill-fated Ploiesti mission. The Liberandos, commanded by Group CO K. K. Compton, led the five-group strike. Due in part to poor mission planning and a navigational mistake on Compton's part, the strike was not as successful as hoped for. Since Walker had access to many of the Liberandos who flew the Ploiesti mission, his account is quite complete and also helps correct several myths that have grown up over the strike.

Using the membership and resources of the 376th Veterans group, Walker crafted this massive, 613-page tribute to the Liberandos which covers every aspect of the Group's activities - combat ops, camp life, group personalities, etc. The Group comes to life thanks to the many first-person reminiscences included. Over 670 photographs, maps and charts can be found in the book as well as colour side-views of Liberando B-24s, colour illustrations of the Group's insignia and dynamite cover artwork.

If the book has a failing, it's in the fact that Walker did not compare Group claims of enemy aircraft shot down, ships sunks, etc. against German loss records. (And, to cut him some slack, he may not have been aware of or had access to such records).

Aside from that caveat, THE LIBERANDOS is quite an accomplishment and quite an accomplished work. In all likelihood, Walker's book will stand as THE definitive work on this exceptional Air Force unit.

SHIPPING:
OVERSEAS ITEMS WORTH LESS THAN €150 / £135

From 1 July 2021, the Brexit transition period ends. From this date forward, EVERYTHING sold to a country outside of the UK counts as an export, and as such could be subject to VAT/tax. EU member states require an IOSS (Import One Stop Shop) number, although this is optional. From 1 July, eBay should provide me with an IOSS number once you have completed checkout. I will then make sure this number is visible on your parcel. This is to tell the customs officials in your country that you have already paid the relevant taxes at point of purchase. The VAT rate for books and printed papers is 0% in the UK, but it may well be different for your country. The good news is that eBay have an entire team dedicated to working out the tax rates for you - these should be visible on your pre-order summary just before you complete checkout, and will be based on 1) the applicable VAT rate for the type of goods you have bought 2) the value of the goods. If you have won an item at open auction, then the final tax amount will not be visible until bidding ends. If you are purchasing a 'buy it now' item then the applicable tax should be visible before you complete checkout.
This rule covers items less worth than €150 / £135, regardless of whether there is one item or multiple items in the order. For orders worth more than €150 / £135, please see below.
Some countries such as Australian (ABN numbers) and some US States have already implemented the collection of taxes at point of purchase, so customers in these countries will in most cases be familiar with the collection of tax when buying on eBay UK. If any additional codes are required for your parcels, then I am confident that eBay will provide me with them. I will then in due course make sure they are visible on any paperwork or address labels, to show you have already paid your tax.

SHIPPING:
OVERSEAS ORDER WORTH MORE THAN €150 / £135

If your order - whether an individual item or multiple items - is worth more than €150 / £135, then eBay will NOT provide me with an IOSS (Import One Stop Shop) number once you have completed checkout. Currently, such orders will be subject to tax/VAT (if required) only when they enter the destination country, at the discretion of the local tax authority and based on the tax rates for the kind of item(s) you have purchased. *Please note* that the parcel may also be subject to a release charge by the customs agency in your country. This is the system as it stands - in the future, there may become available a service whereby you can pay all charges up front, in which case I will update my listings.

Returns:

If you are unhappy with an item, or believe it was incorrectly described then please contact me first through eBay rather than opening dispute claims.

I try my best to describe items accurately, and resolve any issues in a timely manner.  Please refer to my 100% positive feedback record over the last 17years.

YOU HAVE 30 DAYS from date of payment in which to return an item and claim a refund. This is the time allocated to you as a customer by law, and conversant with eBay's returns policy. You can not claim a refund after this time.

Lost / Damaged items / Returns:

In the unlikely event that your item is lost or damaged, please contact me through eBay's messaging service in the first instance.  If you need to return an item for any reason, please let me know.  Please note that 'buyer's remorse' is NOT a valid reason for a return
