Franklin Silver Half Dollar - Background & Design:

The Franklin Half Dollar was first unveiled to the public in 1948, replacing the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. It enjoyed a popular run until 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Just few months later in 1964, the U.S. Mint replaced the Franklin with a new half dollar honoring the fallen president. Had JFK not been killed, this might still be the Half Dollar found in our Mint and Proof Sets!

These rare and collectible Franklin Half Dollars pictures Founding Father Benjamin Franklin on the obverse and the historical Liberty Bell on the reverse. A small eagle was placed to the right of the bell to fulfill the legal requirement that half dollars depict the figure of an eagle. Produced in 90 percent silver with reeded edge, the coin was struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints. As of December 30, 2021, the melt value of the $0.50 coin was approximately $8.37! Get your investment now!

Franklin Half Dollar Grading Scale & Guidelines:

As understood and in relation to condition notes and guidelines, a Franklin Half Dollar in an "About Uncirculated" condition show signs of wear among on the obverse and reverse in regard to the high points of design. While the wear is present, the cheek area just below the eye may have more minor wear, dullness, and/or smoothing on the surface.

Obverse: The removal of luster to Franklin's chin is apparent with wear, although roundness may be present. There be minor wear to Franklins chin as it is one of the first to show signs of wear. There may be detail remaining in Franklin's hair.

Reverse: The lettering within the center of the Liberty bell may remain, showing traces of wear. Straps to the beam are dull and smoothed as are the edges of the beam. Often evidence of wear is detectible along the lower rim of the Liberty bell.
