VINTAGE ZUNI INDIAN DISHTA SILVER INLAID TURQUOISE SCREW BACK EARRINGS. These perfectly crafted channel inlay earrings are an excellent example of the precise work by a Zuni artist in the mid-twentieth century. Small pieces of blue gem nevada turquoise and mother of pearl were cut and set into silver channels and set in between small silver drops. The earrings are what is sometimes called “Dishta” style, as the famous Zuni silversmith Frank Dishta was known for this design.

Artisans from Zuni Pueblo have been known for millennia for their amazing lapidary skills. After the introduction of silver to their jewelry-making process, Zuni artisans developed new and innovative methods of setting precisely cut stones into silver—petit point and needlepoint, mosaic inlay and channel inlay.
