This auction is for the Hunting Jug on the LEFT of the two in the main picture ONLY.
(The other is listed separately and finishes a few minutes after this one).

On offer here is a Superb Green Top Salt Glazed Hunting Jug with applied motifs.

It stands 6 3/4" or 17.2cm tall and has a base diameter of just under 4" or 10cm.

It is a heavy Jug, weighing 1,013 grams.

The lower half colour is close to that seen in the close-up motifs pictures.

These Decorative Jugs were used largely for the serving of ale.

The true hunting wares motifs showed a hunt, normally running to the left
around the lower half of the piece.
The motifs shows a deer being chased by several hounds and the mounted huntsmen.

The Handle is finished with a quite distinctive strap and simulated screw-heads.

I have always liked the way you can clearly see how the potter had used his thumbs (most likely) to do the final 'smooth' finish to the spout and under the handle, before the glazing process.  It shows great character and originality.
