Moved by the spirit of the Enlightenment Tsar Peter I the Great led the Russian Empire out of its cultural isolation and into the centre of the group of great European nations.
He started the first Russian newspaper, simplified the Russian alphabet and founded the first Russian state museum - which included a public library - and the Russian Academy of Science.
This was built in the city named after the great tsar - St Petersburg. Tsarina Catherine's ambition was to continue the work of Peter the Great.
Her commitment to the arts was impressive: she corresponded with Voltaire, Diderot and d'Alembert, among others.
She is responsible for having the Ermitage - the well-known winter place erected in St Petersburg.
The edition commemorates the great era of the Russian Empire and reflects the impressive court of the Russian tsar.
The two-headed eagle, a motive from the rich iconography of the age of the tsars, enriches the Au 750 solid gold nib.
Surrounded by laurel wreaths, artistic yellow gold-coated ornamentation encircles the green resin barrel of the Limited Edition 4810 honouring Peter the Great. The aubergine-coloured resin of the cap and barrel of the Limited Edition 4810 dedicated to Tsarina Catherine is adorned with ornaments featuring blossom wreath motives and rose gold-coated fittings.
Both comes with wooden display boxes, outer boxes, white cardboard outer sleeves, International Service Certificates. Matching number and sealed.
