A by-product of the honey production process, Beeswax is used in a multitude of applications, from candle making, body butter, soaps to lip balms to leather polishes and moisturisers.

Our beeswax is in bead form as it is easier to melt and weigh. It is impermeable to water, nor is it affected by mildew.

Beeswax has a melting point between 62 and 65 degrees Celsius and is pliable at 38 degrees Celsius

Beeswax can be added to a wide variety of cosmetic formulations including lip balms, body butters, moisturisers and ointments. Typical use levels in a lip balm are between 5-15%, Emulsions 0.1-0.5%, Ointments 0.1-2% add to the oil phase.

Beeswax is one of the most versatile natural products and is commonly used as a thickening agent, binder, emulsifier, emulsion stabiliser, emulsifying surfactant, skin-conditioning agent, and humectant.

When it comes to the manufacture of cosmetics, Beeswax will not typically clog pores as long as the substance has been used correctly in the formulation process. It will however deliver numerous emollient, softening and other benefits for the user.

Overheating this beeswax will impact its scent and colour. Please melt beeswax as slowly as possible while stirring gently. Use it as soon as it is melted, otherwise it will cook and render poor-quality results, including a cooked or burnt odour, and an off-white colour.
Beeswax can be used in the manufacturing of many products such as lotions, creams, balms, body butter and even soaps to which it provides body and stiffness and assists as a thickener.
Beeswax does not become rancid and can help increase the durability of soap by increasing its hardness.

NOT FOR INTERNAL CONSUMPTION

Warning: When melting beeswax, always use a water bath by placing the container of wax - probably a small saucepan - inside a larger pan of water. Never place a pan of wax directly on a hot plate or gas ring. Beeswax can easily become damaged by localised overheating and if it ignites, can burn more ferociously than any chip pan fire. Beeswax does not boil - it just gets hotter and hotter until it ignites.
