The origin of hand-knotted carpets in Kashmir dates back to the 15th century, after which it attained the high degree of perfection.
It is said that Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin brought carpet weavers from Persia and Central Asia into Kashmir to train the local inhabitants. Since then art has been passed on from generation to craft the masterpieces of art. It takes at least 8-10 months to weave an intricate and good-quality carpet.
The magic behind the entire process of carpet weaving involves the entire family or the household sitting around a handloom throughout the day with dedication and concentration weaving magic with their fingers to convert woolen threads into perfect designs of beautiful colors.
