A lovely antique French mattress cover made from ticking fabric dating to circa 1890. ~ FABULOUS blue, wonderful off-white and a warmer beige neutral tone that is almost greige, or khaki. ~ This fabric is a heavy weight linen and cotton denim!!! Ideal for many projects, durable and beautiful! ~*~ This gorgeous fabric was once used as a mattress cover and was once stuffed with feathers, straw or fodder, on one of the shorter sides the seam has been opened up a bit and the feathers were removed at some point. There is an L-shaped hand stitched mend close to one side edge, and 2 hand stitched patches by the open seam. Today this wonderful textile would make a great duvet cover for a twin bed or couch throw, or the fabric could be used for all kinds of upholstery projects, pillows, dog beds, bags, etc! A classic French fabric ~ . The name "denim" derives from French fabric de Nîmes, an area of France producing these wonderful heavy ticking fabrics. Please see condition below. ( E292 )

Measurements : This fabric measures approximately 54 inches wide by 79 inches long (but of course this mattress cover has two sides measuring this and could be opened out for larger projects) ~

CONDITION: This fabric is in as found, unwashed condition. ~ There are many small marks on the ground of this fabric here and there on both sides that may not wash fully. I recommend dry cleaning as I would be concerned the blue dye would bleed. There is some light gentle fading. ~ Condition reflected in the price.
