Rare Æ Copper Roman Provincial Coin (29.5mm, 11.61g.) Apollonia Pontica mint, struck 147-161 A.D. under Antoninus Pius. References: RPC Online 10943; Varbanov 811. Apollonia Pontica (or Apollonia Pontika) meaning, “Apollonia on the Black Sea”, became Sozopolis by the 1st century AD. Today it is the modern town of Sozopol located 35 km south of Burgas on the southern Black Sea Coast in Bulgaria.
This rare issue was hand struck (hammered) in Plovdiv, Bulgaria (ancient Roman province Philippopolis). It goes without saying you always get the exact item in the picture.
