A sitar is a
traditional stringed musical instrument that originated in India and is widely
used in classical Indian music. It has a long, hollow neck with movable frets
and is usually made of teak or mahogany wood. The upper part of the sitar's
body is shaped like a gourd and is called the tumba. The instrument typically
has seven strings, with four of them being played for the melody and the
remaining three strings providing drone accompaniment.
