The Inspiration for the Birth Machine Sculpture and the Bullet Babies is the 1967 Pen and Ink Giger Artwork "Birthmachine," a Cut-away image of a fully loaded Walther Pistol.

In 1999, Giger created the sculpture "Birth Machine" as an exact copy of his artwork, which now adorns the entrance to the Museum HR Giger..
