Cassia marilandica, also known as American Senna or Wild Senna, is a perennial native to North America. It features bright yellow, butterfly-like flowers and pinnate leaves. Growing up to 3-6 feet tall, it thrives in USDA hardiness zones 3-9. This plant is a host for caterpillars of the cloudless sulphur butterfly and attracts pollinators with its nectar-rich blooms. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Wild Senna's seeds have a hard coat that benefits from scarification or soaking before planting, and it self-seeds in suitable conditions.
