Franklin Silver Half Dollar - Background & Design:

In 1948, a numismatic marvel graced the world stage—the extraordinary Franklin Silver Half Dollar. With its grand debut, it took the spotlight, replacing the revered Walking Liberty Half Dollar and captivating the hearts of collectors. From 1948 to 1963, this exquisite coin enjoyed a remarkable reign until a tragic event forever altered its course—the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In 1964, as the nation mourned, the Franklin bid farewell, making room for a new half dollar that would pay tribute to the fallen leader. Contemplating the twists of fate, one can't help but wonder how numismatic history might have unfolded if the Franklin had continued to adorn our Mint and Proof Sets.

The rare and collectible Franklin Silver Half Dollars feature a captivating design that embodies the spirit of American heritage. The obverse showcases the distinguished profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of our esteemed Founding Fathers, rendered with meticulous detail. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, symbolizing the indomitable spirit of freedom. Accompanied by a small eagle, fulfilling the legal requirement for half dollars, these coins bear the hallmark of superior craftsmanship from the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints. Struck with precision, each coin contains 90 percent silver and displays a distinctive reeded edge, adding to its allure and desirability.

Embrace the allure of these historic Franklin Silver Half Dollars, as they unveil a chapter of American numismatic legacy. These coins forge a tangible connection to the past, inviting collectors to appreciate their artistry, historical significance, and enduring beauty. With their captivating story and intrinsic value, these rare treasures are a coveted addition to any numismatic collection. They serve as a testament to the rich tapestry of American coinage and the lasting legacy of the Franklin Silver Half Dollar.

Franklin Half Dollar Grading Scale & Guidelines:

In accordance with the established condition notes and guidelines, an "About Uncirculated" Franklin Half Dollar exhibits noticeable wear on both the obverse and reverse, primarily on the high points of the design. The cheek area just below the eye may display minor wear, dullness, or smoothing on the surface.

On the obverse, the removal of luster becomes evident with wear, although some roundness may still be present. Minor wear can be observed on Franklin's chin, as it is one of the first areas to show signs of wear. Detail may still remain in Franklin's hair, adding to the overall appeal.

Flipping to the reverse, the lettering within the center of the Liberty Bell may exhibit traces of wear, while the straps to the beam appear dull and smoothed, as do the edges of the beam. Often, evidence of wear becomes detectable along the lower rim of the Liberty Bell.
