AURORA Cristoforo Colombo {Christopher Columbus} 500th Anniversary (1492-1992) Optima 3pcs Set (fountain pen, ballpoint pen, mechanical pencil)

Year: 1992

Limited Edition: 0086/1492 (matching numbers)

18k – 750 Medium (M) Nib

Made in Italy

This Series conveys all the excitement of the discovery of America, the symbol of man's search for new horizons.

Only 1492 numbered examples of this exclusive fountain pen have been produced. Coated in gold, with an antique hall mark, ebonite nib holder; turned hold, and solid 18 carats gold nib, it is a masterpiece of Italian artisan workmanship.

A guilloché design skillfully crafted by master goldsmiths decorates the central strip with the commemorative dates '1492-1992, and the three Caravels. A transparent coffer sealed with wax contains sand from the Island of San Salvador, and three nuggets of gold, to represent Christopher Columbus' Caravels.

In 1992, Aurora released its its first mainstream limited edition series, alongside the initial releases from its competitor pen- makers.  This year marked the beginning of the modern era of limited editions.

Based on its successful Optima model, the Cristoforo Colombo series comprised a total numbered release of 1492 pens, in piston filler fountain pens, ballpoint pens, and 0.9mm mechanical pencils (the only 0.9mm pencil series ever released by Aurora in the modern era).

The pens are made of guilloche-engraved gold-plated metal, and the piston filling fountain pen sports its original; pre-1993 release gold nib. (From 1993 Aurora employed a varied nib, more ornately decorated).
The series celebrates the "discovery" of the Americas by Colombus, when his crew landed on San Cristobal, in 1492, some 500 years earlier.  The pen box contains a crucible of San Cristobal beach sand, with three grains of gold. (Seller cannot warrant this statement!)

The set appears to have never been used. There are minor handling micro scratches on the cap od the fountain pen (see enclosed photos).
The set is supplied with three individual outer sleeves, wooden display boxes, with original warranty booklets, personally signed by Aurora's then progressive and inventive leader, Franco Verona.

Selling all over the world for us the shipping is an important issue.
We use only high quality materials such as double wall cardboard boxes, extra large buble wrap, polypropylene packaging tape, pvc pipe with high resistance.
Shipment is guaranteed within 24 hours after receiving payment.
We have had some problems with our traditional shipping methods (lost packages, major slowdown in delivery) therefore we decided to move to Fedex Priority Service.
So, the shipping costs are now slightly more expensive (between $45 and $100 depending on destination country, volume and weight of the parcel) but the service is greatly better.
FedEx requires a telephone number (landline or mobile) on the shipping label.
For this reason we kindly ask you to tell us your phone number on the Paypal or with an ebay message.
