Black Jade - Rockers / Contempo (1975)Rare Roots Club CDr issue from 2019
The only way to describe this is to tell the story: The only real trace of Black Jade these days is their very hard to find vinyl selections, and this compilation gathers all that is known to exist together on one set... They were most likely a London band but even that is unclear.
The first appearance of any Black Jade vinyl was the dub album 'Contempo', which, oddly, was distributed freely on the streets of the 1976 Notting Hill Carnival which just increases their enigmatic mystery and although it's an odd choice for any band it's a real clue as to their personality; they apparently shunned the limelight almost completely.
That points towards a deep spirituality and humble nature that we can only truly guess about.
Frustratingly the vocal album 'Rockers' is not the vocal LP version of 'Contempo'!
Nor is there any evidence of a vocal version of Contempo ever being made, though the recordings certainly must have been made else there would be no dub album!
Curious indeed but unless anyone out there knows otherwise, it seems this is all that they ever actually pressed up; 2 albums and 3 singles. That's your lot.
