Songs of Glory - A  Choice Collection of Sacred Songs for all Occasions - Book 1 & 2.

Book shows a lot of wear and age but still in usable condition. Name on front cover sheet.  Lot of dog-eared pages.  Some binding damage but all pages appear to be in place.  This is book 1 & 2 combined with indexes for both.  Approx. 8" x 5½" Hardcover with shaped notes.

Of special interest is the section " The Vocal Gem" - Rudiments of Music, Voice Culture, Graded Lessons and Songs.  Years ago churchs of the Church of Christ fellowship had occasional "Singing Schools" to teach the young men of the congregation how to lead singing, which was important since the use of instrumental music was not used.  The information in this section would have been the teaching text for those "singing schools".  That is also the reason the Church of Christ always use Shaped Note song books. Those properly trained can sight read and sing a song they have never heard by reading the shaped notes, without any musical accompaniment.
