Description -------  One (1), gorgeous, heavy, and exceedingly rare -- antique, wall mounted basket, for collecting soiled bath towels, or storing fresh rolled ones. Unsigned, attributed to JL Mott Iron Works, of New York, produced in the late 19th to very early 20th century. JL Mott bath fittings are revered for their skillful, robust construction, invisible welding, minimalist yet beautiful design, and utility / functionality for the task at hand.

• nickel plated with a glowing, polished finish, on solid brass/bronze components - strong, shaped rods, not hollow tubes. 
• No pieces can be removed, nor do any unscrew. 
• All parts are rounded rods. 
• Mounting tabs (3) are teardrop shaped, small & integral.
• Perfectly constructed with NO visible solders and does not attract a magnet at all, anywhere. (Brass & nickel don’t attract a magnet, and do not rust.)

Thoughtful design - this basket has bars along the back, and attached, offset, teardrop-shaped mounting tabs - this design helps to keep things placed inside from directly touching or rubbing the wall. 

I found this exact basket in the 1907/1908 JL Mott Iron Works, Catalog "A" (See last photo collage for catalog pics.) The catalog shows this basket quite clearly - note its distinctive “divided circle” design at the base. Also, there’s an illustration of this basket on a bathroom wall. (Note - this catalog is not copyrighted, it is in the public domain.)

This is only the third Victorian towel basket that I’ve found in my lifetime. They are rare. 

It is surprisingly heavy for size - weighing about 6 pounds before packing.

Creative uses are many.

SIZE  -------  

• 16” x 12” x 6”, overall, approx., not including small mounting tabs. 
• When installed on a wall, the basket will project about 6.5” - there is a ~1/2” air space between your wall and and any damp towels put into the basket. 
• No mounting screws or wall mounting hardware included. 
• This basket is heavy and will require appropriately secure mounting for your wall type, plus the expected weight of any contents, i.e. wet towels.
• There are 3 mounting tabs with smallish holes. The upper pair holes are located 11.5” apart OC. The lower tab hole is centered at the bottom of the basket.
• Shown with a ruler, wall outlet, and a standard wine bottle, for scale.
