The choking dust, the swollen streams, the fearsome stampedes, the days on end (literally) in the saddle - all are nailed down in Andy Adams' little classic, The Log of a Cowboy (1903).
A real-life cowhand and a first-class writer, Adams had taken part in many cattle drives such as this, his fictional account of an 1880s drive from Texas to Montana.
This issue of Innovations in Paper calls on Adams' words* to illuminate a sampling of cowboy art.
You'll meet old friends among the artists in these pages most frequently, of course, the master, Frederic Remington.
You'll also, as we did, make some fresh discoveries.
We hope you enjoy the whole issue as much as we enjoyed designing it for you.
The papers we have used - Weyerhaeuser are duly Andorra, Torino and Carousel identified in the Production Notes.
It is enough here simply to note that they are all textured papers. A capital idea, we submit, when your goal is to capture the texture of a time.
