Dark Mansion (Forbidden tales of) #13 Good Dc Horror comic Bronze age Forbidden Tales of Dark Mansion is a horror comic book series published by DC Comics. Issue #13 of the series was released in November 1973. The issue contains two stories, “The Man Who Waxed and Waned!” and “The Eavesdropper” .
“The Man Who Waxed and Waned!” is about a gangster who seeks refuge with an old lady who practices voodoo-like skills on dolls that represent community figures. The dolls wind up dead, and the gangster confronts the old woman to teach him her secrets. The old lady is murdered, and her body is dumped in a boiling cauldron. The gangster heads to the airport to leave the country but begins to perspire all of a sudden. The old lady’s house burns to the ground, revealing that she had constructed a doll replica of the thug. The doll burns at the same time that the thug begins to melt at the airport.
“The Eavesdropper” is about Frank Grogan, who dreams of meeting the right woman. He encounters a lovely female in the lobby of his apartment, Pythia, who is married to a skinny sickly man. Pythia reveals that her husband is not expected to live and she would like to see more of Frank. Pythia lives in the apartment adjacent to Frank so he is able to eavesdrop on her room night after night. He hears strange noises and surmises that Pythia is being abused by her husband. One night the noises are particularly bad so Frank breaks into her apartment. He is shocked to see a large snake feeding on the husband killing him. Pythia supposedly hid in the bathroom for safety and was able to escape the snake. With the husband dead, Frank and Pythia are soon married but during the night it is revealed that Pythia transforms into a snake and slowly sucks the life out of her husband.
