Profusely illustrated. Thoroughly engaging. Excellent resource and guid.

142 pages, firmly readable. Paperback : vintage soft cover edition in good clean condition, a typical used book with some slight wear to edges and spine.  As to be expected with used books, there may be some minor bumping, creases, and/or scuffs. Overall a good copy, excellent resource and reading enjoyment. 

Condition:  Used, but overall in nice condition, good plus to very good minus,  most the wear is on the cover, and there is a faint water stain on the back 10 or so pages. 

-- Defects: YES.  Typical wear, faint moisture stain on the final 10 or so pages. Overall nice. Signed on cover.

Way back in the late 80's, while employed by Wizard Publications (as editor of BMX ACTION magazine), my roomate and fellow Editor of Freestylin' magazine)--Lew, and I were asked to write a sequel to the original FREESTYLIN' book. Both Lew & I knew it would be a hard task at hand, afterall the first FREESTYLIN' book was one of the key reasons we were both working at Wiz Pubs. We, along with tens of thousands of other BMX fanatics at the time had been inspired by the first book (written by our employer--the Great Oz).

While the first book introduced the World of Freestyle and it's beginnings, our version would be filled with tons of trick how-to's. Not long after this book was written, VHS videos came along and made "how-to books" like this out of date.

But what FREESTYLIN' II: The Book has going for it, is the killer photography of Windy Osborn--confirmed by the incredible cover picture of Redline's Todd Anderson. Design and layout was done by Kurt Smith; who made BMX ACTION look as good as it did for nearly a decade. And the cast of top freestyle stars from the 80's helps make this a total BMX classic.

The Book highlights all forms of riding (flatland, kickturn, ramps, and the beginnings of "street"). The "basic" advice from famous-at-the-time riders such as Eddie Fiola, R.L.Osborn, Dizz Hicks, Ceppie Maes, Woody Itson and a young Matt Hoffman (to name just a few) can still apply today for the beginner freestyler. Sure, the tricks that Mirra and Nyquist pull off today are waaaaaay beyond what is shown in this book, but everyone has to start at the beginning in their riding and this book shows how. Obviously, many of the "old school" tricks demonstrated are really out of date, but give 'em five or ten years and they'll probbaly come back in to popularity in some manner.

Sure, I am biased about this book .. I helped write it. But, if you are wanting to know how to start off or are looking for a nostalgic piece of freestyle history, I suggest getting a copy of a BMX classic -- FREESTYLIN' II.
