Ave!
Celtic Proto Wheel Money, c. 700-400 BC, Rare
Type!
Copper alloy; 38mm/29.7gm = Huge!
Con/ As Cast; Dark green patina, cleaned and
waxed.
Seller's Note/ Such 'proto money' was used as
a trading commodity (currency) before the introduction of struck coins in the
Eastern Danube region and the Black Sea area by the Celtic tribes and were
marketed by their weight. The most common types were simple round rings, while
others had a few knobs or lugs that were worn as beads or jewelry in one manner
or another, as seen in our example.
This would certainly have been attached to a
thong and worn as a necklace pendant. Extremely Rare,
this pendent was ground found in the environs of a small Celtic settlement
south of the Drava River. Very rare and seldom presented, Museum quality.
Do not be deceived by other bogus Celtic ring
money found here. This is the real deal and not simply Roman harness rings,
just saying.
