This
is an excellent example of a large copper vase by the renowned Italian designer
and metalworker, Egidio Casagrande.
The vase is hand worked in hammered copper and has a shallow foot below a
baluster shape with vertical twist fluting, leading to a beautifully flared
rim.
It is impressed to the base with an oval studio imprint E Casagrande / Italy /
Borgo Valsugana. And also has the design number, "27" below.
Egidio Casagrande (1911-1962) worked in brass and copper. He was born in Borgo
Valsugana, Italy and at 13 was apprenticed in the workshop of Luigi Taddei,
specializing in the production of iron and copper. In 1937 he moved to Milan
where he opened a workshop for the production of copper objects. This master
craftsman made sculptures for public places and is also well known for the work
he did on film sets with Hollywood studios, such as Ben-Hur, that was filmed in
Italy.
This vase has a lovely natural patina and has not been polished.
It
would make a beautiful centre-piece with a dried flower arrangement or on its
own.
This Vase is high about 38 cm
