This is his first new studio album in 18 years since his 2005 album "A Bigger Bang."

The album contains 12 songs and was recorded at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, Metropolis Studios in London, Sanctuary Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, Electric Lady Studios in New York, and The Hit Studio, also in New York. It was held at various locations around the world, including Factory/Jamano Studio.

The Japanese version only includes one bonus track.

Hackney Diamonds is the first collaboration between the Stones (Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood) and New York producer and musician Andrew Watt. Andrew won the Producer of the Year award at the 2021 Grammy Awards and has previously worked with Pearl Jam, Iggy Pop, Elton John, and more.

The video for the first single "Angry" stars Sidney Sweeney and was directed by François Rousselet.

The original artwork for Hackney Diamonds was created by digital animator Paulina Almira.

The seventh song, “Mess It Up,” and the eighth song, “Live by the Sword,” feature performances by Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021.

Former member Bill Wyman plays bass on ``Live by the Sword.''

The 11th song, "Sweet Sounds of Heaven", features Lady Gaga (vocals) and Stevie Wonder (keyboards and piano).

Paul McCartney plays bass on ``Bite My Head Off,'' while Elton John plays piano on ``Get Close'' and ``Live by the Sword.''

The bonus track included only on the Japanese CD is "Living in a Ghost Town" released in 2020.
