Sir Arthur Conan Doyle [1859 1930] was a British writer and physician who in 1887 created the fictional character Sherlock Holmes. In 1887 he released, A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Homes stories are a milestone in the field of crime fiction. Listed for auction is a [ALS] autograph letter signed by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The letter is dated Bush Villa Sonttisea, June 5th 1890, and reads as follows, ''Dear Sir, The Melbourne Paper had no leave at all, and I hope that we can make that for them. I should be glad to hear what comes of the matter. With kind regards, Yours very truly A. Conan Doyle'' in black fountain pen. The letter measures approximately 5.5. x 4.5. inches, the letter is affixed to a card and is in fine condition. The letter is authentic and is a desirable example of this noted author and is ideal for display. The letter was part of a collection acquired by a Mrs. Ida Hallows during the 1890's.
