The Krama - Bokator Martial Arts

A krama is a traditional Cambodian garment that is worn by both men and women. It is a long, rectangular piece of cloth, usually made from cotton, that is worn around the waist or draped over the shoulders. Kramas are often brightly colored and are woven with intricate designs. They are versatile garments and can be used in many different ways, such as a scarf, a head covering, a baby carrier, or even as a makeshift bag. Kramas are an important part of Cambodian culture and are often given as gifts or used in traditional ceremonies.

The krama can also be used as a fighting weapon. In the martial art of Bokator, which is an ancient Khmer martial art, the krama is sometimes employed as a makeshift weapon. Bokator practitioners are known to use the krama in combat, wrapping it around their hands to improve grip or to protect their hands when striking or blocking. It can also be used to choke or restrain opponents. The krama's flexibility and length make it a versatile tool in self-defense or combat situations.

Overall, while the krama is primarily a garment, its practicality and availability have made it an improvised weapon in some traditional martial arts.
