The work of artist Charming Baker can be described as painterly and figurative, belonging to more traditional modes of art, yet also appealing to contemporary audiences. Conceptually, Baker is principally interested in contrasts—of dark and light, thick and thin, reality and unreality, beautiful and disturbing. His patterned compositions are stunning, but also emanate a melancholic uneasiness.

Charming Baker (British, b. 1964) has had solo exhibitions at the Truman Brewery London, 2007; Redchurch Street Gallery London, 2009; New York Studio Gallery NYC, 2010; Mercer Street London, 2011; Milk Studios LA, 2013; and Sotheby’s S2 London, 2016. The artist is largely inspired by the works of English still life and landscape painters George Stubbs and John Constable. Charming Baker lives and works in London.
