Antique 1875 MOONSHINE STILL Maker Whisky Liquor Civil War Bar Distillery Brewer

Welcome

&

Thank You for Shopping In the USA!

An original ornate 1875 document for the Business of Manufacturer of Stills issued by the US Internal Revenue..."Severe Penalties are imposed for neglect or refusal to place and keep this stamp conspicuously in your establishment or place of business"! This document was more often issued for liquor dealers as not many people made stills during the period. Please see photos!

This document has beautiful graphics on a fantastic shade of blue paper! Engraved on the top center is the Greek God, Mercury, with the medical symbol (snake & staff) in hand, leaning on a large woven wicker, glass bottle, sitting next to wooden kegs, a moonshine still, along with a funnel lying on the ground! The government used this as a tax for selling, dispensing and distilling liquor to raise money to pay for the Civil War.

In fine print on the side is: "Engraved & Printed at the Bureau Engraving & Printing", "$50 Dollars Per Year" near the bottom, and "Stamp For Special Tax", near the top. To prevent forgeries the government put black silk threads in the paper, which can be seen upon closer inspection...cool!

The front measures 8" by 7", the payment coupons are folded behind, so total length is 14". The document has hole punches on the front and a line on the back (to void), light edge wear and two tack holes, otherwise, condition is excellent...a beautiful document with great moonshine, liquor, distillery history!

This is a FANTASTIC piece, of history and would be great to display in a brewery, pharmacy, bar, distillery, museum or office! I am happy to answer any questions, please feel free to email and thank you for your interest!
