Please email with any questions. Group of nineteen antique hand painted die-cut celluloid place cards with eighteen black stands. Paper label inside the original box reads: VIENNA HANDWORKED PLACECARDS, MOST ELEGANT TABLE DECORATION, ORIGINAL NOVELTY, DIFFERENT DESIGNS.". Each piece of celluloid measures about 2" wide and about 2 1/2" high. All of these were in one box but the subjects make me think it is a conglomeration of several sets- we have 18th century courting couples, Pierrot and Pierette clowns, musicians, Cupid fishing, little girl with rooster. Some of the cards have faint traces of previous names- you would need to use something that can wipe off should you use these for parties. They are so charming and not anything I've come across before. I think they could be very eye-catching accents that you can label in a showcase full of estate jewelry or other small items in a shop or at a fancy antique show.
