ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A new novel by Karina Sainz Borgo, author of La hija de la española / It Would Be Night in Caracas, winner of the Grand Prix Madame Figaro and finalist of the Literaturpreis: the latest sensation in Spanish literature. Her works have been translated into 26 languages and she has been compared to Jorge Luis Borges and J. M. Coetzee by international literary critics.

Angustias Romero flees by crossing the border. Her husband, stricken with fever, could barely help her carry the shoe boxes where they carried their dead babies on the journey, before leaving her in the Third Country, the illegal cemetery of the mythical Visitation. Friends and sometimes rivals, the two women will fight against a hostile landscape where the only law is dictated by those who are armed, where keeping time is done with fish, parties, and the mysterious toys that people leave in the children's graves, while danger and violence are constantly growing, blurring the boundaries between life and death.

La hija de la española / It Would Be Night in Caracas was the great revelation in Spanish literature; it was translated into twenty-six languages, and compared by critics to Borges and Coetzee. With El tercer país / The Third Country, Karina Sainz Borgo ratifies her talent, her ambition, and her rightfully earned place in a new Latin American literature, one that merges thrillers, westerns, classic tragedies, and the great legacy left behind by the great Latin American Boom writers, and one that keeps capturing new readers from all over the world.
