Jazz at Oberlin was recorded in March 1953 at Oberlin College's Finney Chapel. It is considered one of the first works of the "Cool Jazz" movement of jazz, as it deviates from bebop and even hints at free jazz piano techniques. It is also considered the work that led Oberlin and other universities to legitimize jazz as a serious field of musical and intellectual study.
In addition to Dave Brubeck (piano), the album also features Paul Desmond (alto saxophone), Lloyd Davis (drums) and Ron Cotty (bass).
This 180 gram re-release was cut by Kevin Gray from the original analog tapes and pressed at RTI and comes in a tip-on jacket with Obi.
