This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a Henry N. Frentress patent, dated December 14, 1875.   This wire is called "Frentress' Split Diamond Sheet Metal Barb on Round and Teardrop Lines" by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 671-B).  (Hagemeier does not show this barb with round and teardrop lines).  This wire features two twisted together line wires.  Barbs are four pointed made from sheet metal cut into a diamond, with both ends slit, and barb twisted at center.  Sample shows light to moderate pitting.  Sample is 18" in length and has three barbs.  Barbs are well spaced and cut is well centered.  Barbs show light bending, but have no missing barbs,  breaks, or repairs.
