Product description

1929 MRS. ADDISON'S WHITE HOUSE LETTER MRS H HOOVER PRESIDENT EPHEMERA CAMDEN NJ

A fascinating historical artifact from March of 1929. Mrs. Addison had previously written to Mrs. Hoover (wife of President Herbert Hoover) asking the First Lady if she had something she could donate for sale at a local Fair.

She was answered by Miss Ruth Fesler, secretary to, presumably, the First Lady to the effect that "owing to the great number of similar requests...she is unable to give herself the pleasure of complying with them". An engraved picture of the White House was sent instead in the hope that it "may be of some use at your bazaar".

At the time, there was only six months left before the catastrophic Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the start of the Great Depression.

Would make an excellent gift for someone like Paul Krugman. Envelope worn, contents in excellent condition.
