Espumisan L drop 30 ml
Espumisan L is a medical product that is in the form of drops. Its active ingredient is Simethicone, which effectively lowers the surface tension of the gas bubbles in the food and the gastrointestinal tract mucus, causing them to rupture and get absorbed through the intestinal walls or expulsed. It prevents gastrointestinal disorders in children and adults caused by excess gas.
Espumisan L drops are used to prevent the symptoms of painful colic in infants.
The product acts physically, does not change chemical reactions in the body, and does not interact with microorganisms and enzymes. Espumisan does not affect digestion and acidity in the stomach.
In addition to colic in the stomach, this medicinal product also helps with symptomatic treatment of the digestive tract in the following cases:
- For treatment of symptomatic gastrointestinal disorders associated with excessive accumulation of gas (flatulence), even after surgery;
- In case of excessive swallowing of air;
- Consumption of gas-forming foods;
- To prepare patients for clinical abdomen testing (radiology, ultrasound, gastrocamera)
- For poisoning with detergents.
Espumisan L 30 ml drops contains the following:
The active substance is simethicone, with 25 drops containing 40 mg of this substance.
Other excipients in the product are the following:
- Macrogol stearate;
- Glycerol monostearate 40-45;
- Sorbic acid (E200);
- Sodium hydroxide (E524) to achieve a specific pH;
- Sodium chloride;
- Carbomers Sodium citrate (E331);
- Sucralose (E955);
- Purified water.
What should you know before taking Espumisan L drops for colic?
As with any medicinal product, there may be contraindications to taking the drug, or it may need to be taken cautiously or follow a doctor's prescription.
Contraindications are as follows:
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients and the 4-hydroxybenzoate;
- Drops are not to be used in children less than 1 month of age;
- During treatment, one should not drink carbonated beverages.
Pregnancy and lactation
There are no data and no evidence of adverse effects of the product during pregnancy or lactation.
How to take Espumisan L drops?
Espumisan L is for oral intake.
Follow these recommendations unless your doctor has prescribed otherwise:
- In case of gastrointestinal complaints associated with gas accumulation:
- Infants: 25 drops in each feeding bottle or before or after each breastfeeding;
- Children between 1 and 6 years of age: 3 to 5 times daily x 25 drops;
- Children between 6 and 14 years of age: 3 to 5 times daily x 25-50 drops;
- Children over 14 years of age and adults: 3 to 5 times daily x 50 drops.
- In the case of imaging studies of the abdominal cavity:
- X-ray, ultrasound examination: On the day before the examination, 3 times x 50 drops are taken, and in the morning before the examination, 50 drops;
- Аs an additive to suspensions with contrast material: 100-200 drops (4-8 ml)
Always shake the bottle before use.
It must be taken during or after a meal before bed if necessary.
Treatment should continue until the resolution of symptoms. Espumisan can be administered for an extended period.
Side effects of Espumisan L
Adverse reactions may occur when taking the active ingredient simethicone.
The most common are the following:
- Urticaria
- Rash
- Erythema
- Pruritus
- Allergic dermatitis and other skin reactions
Espumisan should be stored in its original packaging in a dry and well-ventilated place. Always keep away from children. Check the expiry date on the package.
