Rare CDV of submarine communications cable pioneer, businessman, railway magnate and politician, John Pender.  He was known as Cable Guy, for being one of the most influential people in global communications in the world.  He founded 32 telegraph companies, including what would become Cable and Wireless.  He also invested in the Isle of Man Steam Railway and has a locomotive named Pender, after him.  He was also an important art collector, with a collection including works by Turner, Millais, Joshua Reynolds and Gainsborough.
