This is a vintage antique sample of patented barbed wire.  This sample features a John W. Nadelhoffer patent, dated January 02, 1883. This wire is called "Nadelhoffer's Cross-Over Two Point Barb on Straight and Looped Lines, by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 462-B). (Variation Hagemeier does not show this wire with straight and looped lines).   This wire features two twisted together round line wires.  One line wire runs straight and is wrapped or looped with the second line. Barbs are on the straight line.  Barbs are a long flat topped staple.  Staple points are placed in the twist of the lines, and bent in alternate directions.  This clasps the lines together, and holds the wire twist.  Sample is 18" in length and shows light to moderate oxidation. Cut has four barbs, which are well spaced and cut is well centered.   There are no bends, breaks, missing points or repairs.
