It wasn't just the NWOBHM or US Metal that produced real and wallet-sapping rarities, but also German acts who tried their luck in the first half of the eighties not with demo cassettes, but with a self-produced record. DEATH WARRANT's EP, often referred to as "Ecstasy", is one of the rarest and most exciting rarities that German heavy metal has produced.
The core of the band from Baden-Württemberg was founded in the 1970s and, after a few line-up changes, they finally called themselves Death Warrant. The first demo recordings were made in 1980/1981 and were saved and reworked for these re-releases. The proof that Death Warrant were one of the very early bands in German metal is irrefutably proven.
The landlord of the local bar then financed the highly motivated band's vinyl EP, which is famous in collector circles and was recorded in the Antoni Records studio. The logo of this company can also be seen on the record, but it is still an in-house pressing. Four songs were recorded (in 1984) that capture the zeitgeist of the early years of German Metal. You can tell from the tracks that the musicians already had experience, because despite the rough exterior, it's not just "junk". Unfortunately, some members didn't want to take the next step and the band broke up.
An unplayed EP was overdubbed and cleaned by Patrick Engel, then the material, including the early demo recordings, was restored and remastered by Neudi. The booklet or The LP inlay contains a detailed interview with singer Wolfgang Marquart, who is now a piano teacher.
With this re-release, this piece of German metal history can now make its way into your living room at home without a small loan.
