A lovely antique French mattress cover made from ticking fabric dating to circa 1820-1850! Look at the fabulous hand stitching! This would make a wonderful feature for a pillow or upholstery project, right down the middle! ~Both long sides are all hand stitched beautifully ~ A classic French fabric - the name "denim" derives from French fabric de Nîmes, an area of France producing these wonderful heavy ticking fabrics. This piece has FABULOUS faded indigo blue stripes on a wonderful aged off-white ground. The fabric is a heavy weight cotton denim with a twill weave! This gorgeous fabric was once used as a mattress cover and was once stuffed with feathers; on one of the shorter sides the seam has been opened and the feathers were removed at some point. Ideal for many projects - heavyweight, durable and beautiful! Today this wonderful textile would make a great duvet cover for a twin bed or couch throw, or the fabric could be used for all kinds of upholstery projects, pillows, dog beds, bags, etc!

MEASUREMENTS: This mattress cover measures approximately 47 inches wide by 76 inches long (but of course since this mattress cover has two sides, if you were to open it up for projects, you would get twice the amount of wonderful fabric! about 4.16 yards !! )

CONDITION: This cover has been left in as found, unwashed condition for collectors, but it can be machine washed and tumbled dry. As it has not been washed and was once a feather mattress, it still has residue and down from the feathers on the inside, so will need opening out and washing prior to using for projects! This piece has some holes, the large tear ( as photographed ) some marks, some rust stains ~ Best for creative hands that know how to work around these flaws that are often in inherent in these wonderful piece ~ This textile is not perfect, but it's perfectly wonderful for anyone who appreciates these signs of time and use inherent in wonderful antique textiles!
