~*~ Hello and welcome to the Textile Trunk! Please follow us on Instagram, we are @textiletrunk ~*~

Perfect for study or ideal for reproduction or wonderful used as a decorative textile for any timeworn interior! This textile is an antique French Provencal quilt but it is in poor condition. The central square was printed using hand carved wooden blocks and is one piece of fabric, rather than being pieced. This side is bordered using a wonderful block printed over-dyed cotton. The central square may have been produced as a scarf and later used to create this amazing textile. These fabrics are called Ramoneur and were woodblock printed. These fabrics cannot be exposed to water without risk of extreme damage as the mordants that were used to print these textiles were corrosive with time ~ so this textile is not suitable for water washing. The backing is a red satinized cotton and the front yellow border is a gentle twill weave cotton. There is a woven 18th century quilt under this outer layers! It can be seen under the fractured fabric of the central paisley scarf! It is an 18th century woven linen with indigo geometric designs! This quilt is is VERY POOR condition ~ it is suitable for ONLY design inspiration or a timeworn interior, all condition is reflected in the price. It is in as found, not freshly laundered condition with storage dust. Very important to view photographs carefully to view poor condition !
