The legendary David Gower presents over 100 years of the greatest moments in English and world cricket. The programme starts with early flickering images of the great WG Grace batting in the nets and ends with the Australian's annihilation of England in the 2002/3 series.

We look at the incredible careers of Jack Hobbs, Wally Hammond, George Headley, Denis Compton and Len Hutton, with a special feature on the best of them all, Don Bradman, whose 1948 Ashes side remained unbeaten in England at every level.

There's extraordinary footage from the notorious 1932 Bodyline series and the wonderful scenes at The Oval in 1953 as Len Hutton's England team won the Ashes after 20 years of trying. We see Jim Laker's best-ever figures of 9 for 37 and 10 for 53 against the Australians at The Oval in 1956 before looking at another record-breaking feat, Fred Trueman's 300th Test wicket in 1964.

West Indies dominated the 70s and 80s and Viv Richards epitomised their team with his incredible century against England in Antigua off just 56 balls, the quickest ever recorded. Brian Lara took over the mantle in the 90s and his innings of 501 is the highest individual first class score ever recorded.

The Ashes play a prominent roll, with David Steele's heroics in the 1975 series featured, and an extended look at the most famous series of them all, the 1981 Ashes and the heroics of lan Botham, Bob Willis, Graham Dilley and co.

Interspersed are highlights of all the Cricket World Cups; England's phenomenal double series victories over Pakistan in 2001; the amazing Test series between India and Australia in 2001; a look at the domestic One Day competitions with Gloucestershire's recent four consecutive Lord's victories; and we say goodbye to the Benson and Hedges Cup after more than 30 glorious years.

A History of Cricket contains more than enough action to satisfy the most demanding of armchair fan. Sit back, take guard and enjoy.
