Ferrets as working animals were made redundant when myxomatosis hit Britain in 1958, and with the enormous drop in the rabbit population the art of the ferreter was almost lost. The diminution of the monstrous disease and the resultant increase in wild rabbits has brought a natural enthusiasm for ferreting; and, indeed, a need for it: the reappearance of rabbits on their land has reminded farmers of the damage that vast numbers of these animals can do. Today, the sport of ferreting is possibly less well understood—but more popular—than it has ever been.

Many of the new generation of ferreters, however, have little or no knowledge of the craft, and are obliged to start from scratch and acquire their skills the hard and costly way. Here, Fred J. Taylor—a man who knows what he is talking about—deals with every conceivable aspect of ferrets and the subtle sport of ferreting. The first, slim, version of the Guide was, deservedly, a huge success —and here, now, is a new edition: updated and greatly expanded, it has new illustrations, includes a chapter on ferreting in Australia —and even has recipes. Written in his clear, lively, down-to-earth style, Fred J. Taylor's book is a must for beginner and expert alike.

21 x 14 cm. 150 pp. With related newspaper cuttings and a letter from the publisher loosely inserted.
