Ilex Cornuta - Chinese Horned Holly

Native across eastern China and Korea, this evergreen shrub can reach up to 3cm tall with a smooth, grey bark that turns finely flaked with age. Stems change colour depending on the season, turning from green to a reddish colour during the winter months.

Leaves are distinctive, rectangular with spines resembling horns in the corners, although this cultivar has only tip spines to the leaves.
Dark green and glossy, they can reach up to around 8cm long. Flowers are small and white, appearing in early spring, followed by bright red berries.

Please note that the fruits are considered toxic to humans and pets - keep away from small children and animals that might nibble.

Holly seeds have a deep dormancy period and as such will require patience and a cold stratification period.
Fully hardy.

However, no seed is guaranteed to germinate from any seller, supplier or plant. Nature and care add many variables to growing any plants from seed, but we will offer you help and advice should you need it.
