Historical context: The Tatras are a mountain range of a corrugated nature, originating from the Alpine orogeny, and therefore characterized by a relatively young-looking lie of the land, quite similar to the landscape of the Alps, although significantly smaller.
It is the highest mountain range within the Carpathians.
The overall nature of the Tatras, together with their easy accessibility, makes them a favorite with tourists and researchers.
In Tatras there are also the main centers for winter sports in Slovakia today - Strbske Pleso, Stary Smokovec, and Tatranska Lomnica in High Tatras and for example Jasna in Nizke Tatry where the World Cup took place this year in January.
The picture used on this poster most likely comes from the top of the Jasna - Chopok, how it looked like in the 1960s or 1970s.
Today in Jasna it's possible to cross from the south center to north center by modern cable cars and skiers can enjoy nearly 50 kilometers of ski slopes and also free-ride zones.
Despite Low Tatras are not high as High Tatras, it is considered that Low Tatras with Jasna is the best place for skiing in Slovakia.
