I can't tell you how much I love this quilt! I've only seen these patterns twice in my time specializing in these wonderful antique French textiles!~ this quilt dates c1880 and I am quite sure that the fabric was printed in Mulhouse. The front depicts a scene of harvest of either wheat or flax ~ quite detailed with the man sharpening the scythe~ the ground tone is pale sky blue and the other colors include : Pinks, reds, pale blues, and many muted tones of beige ~ This quilt is backed in a slightly earlier fabric c 1850 so no doubt was just what they had on hand! I've freshly laundered this quilt and it's ready to love! The front has not a flaw!!! It's truly extraordinary, however the back shows that it was folded with the backing exposed for many many years and there are storge marks that didn't wash all over the small scale floral. It's actually quite interesting to view the patina closely! ~ the backing fabric is both hand and roller printed ~ This quilt has a light cotton batting and is 100% hand stitched and hand quilted ~ it's a treasure beyond compare. A FABULOUS and rare French quilt , sure to be an heirloom piece, passed on from generation to generation ~

MEASUREMENTS : This lovely textile measures approx. 92X88 very large for these antique pieces!
