Name: Ornamental Corn

Type: Heirloom

Seeds per sale: 100

Size at Maturity: 5-8” long ears

Days to Maturity: 95-110 Days

Light Requirement: Full Sun

Planting Time: warm season

Planting Depth: approx 1/2”

Plant Spacing: 4-6” - plant in at least two rows next to each other to allow wind pollination

Planting:

The right season for planting this corn is when the temperature is sure to stay at 60 degrees, after there is no danger of frost.

Ideally, you will need a plot of land large enough to hold at least three rows, each 4 feet long and 25 inches apart. You can accomplish this in a raised garden bed as well. Keep in mind that corn does best in full sun.

You do want to keep this corn separate from any other corn you may grow to avoid cross-pollination. If you grow sweet corn near it, and

some turn out having colorful ears, you can still eat it.

Step 2: Prepare Soil and Plant Seeds

When the time is right, plant the corn in rich soil with good drainage. Plant the seeds at a depth of approximately 1/2 inch and 4 to 5 inches apart. Your rows should be approximately four feet long and 24 to 26 inches apart. The point is to plant densely to allow for pollination to occur

naturally with the wind.

It will take about 3 months or more for the corn to reach its full maturity. Keep weeds under control for best plant success. This corn matures shorter- 4-6’ tall with usually 2-3 ears per stalk. The corn also requires frequent watering.

Harvest when husks are dry and have no more green. Shuck the corn and air dry.

Enjoy!
