GOOD LOOKS RECOMMEND THESE RELATIVES OF USEFUL MINTS
On dry plains and prairies from Canada to Texas flourish (1) Wild Bergamot, Monarda mollis, a favorite source of nectar for hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Characteristic of the Mints are square stems, pairs of opposed leaves, and flowers borne in stiff spikes: (2) Hedge Nettle, Stachys palustris, (3) Prairie Sage, Salvia pitcizeri, and (4) Dragonhead, Dracocephalum virginianurn. (5) Frunefla, Prunella vulgaris, and (6) Skullcap, Scutellaria galericulata, are less conspicuous cousins.
