     "Kugikakushi" are decorative architectural features that covered nails and or joints used in the construction on castles, temples or the homes of aristocratic families. Their use started in the 16th and 17th centuries

    These are made of copper with a lacquered front. One is missing its copper spike / nail. (The one in front) These would have been salvaged from a temple or upper class vintage home in the Kyoto area.
